Laodicea was not hot. Laodicea was not cold. They were lukewarm. And Jesus said it made Him sick. Lukewarm is religion without fire. It is church attendance without love. It is prayer without passion. It is the form of godliness without the power.
Lukewarm is religion without fire.
Nobody orders lukewarm coffee. Nobody enjoys lukewarm soup. If it is going to be coffee, it needs to be steaming. If it is going to be iced tea, it needs to be cold. Lukewarm has no appeal. The same is true with faith.
Christ is not asking His people to be half in and half out. He is asking for full devotion. When He is first, the heart is on fire. When He is second, the fire dies. Laodicea thought they were fine, but their lack of zeal revealed spiritual sickness.
Jesus wants disciples who are hot, not lukewarm believers who make Him nauseous.
Overcomers do not live lukewarm lives. They burn with a passion for God’s glory. They do not give Him leftovers of time, affection or obedience. They give Him the best. If your faith has cooled, it is time to return to the fire. Jesus wants disciples who are hot, not lukewarm believers who make Him nauseous.
