“In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
Romans 8:26
You can’t talk about power in prayer without talking about the Holy Spirit. The empowering ministry of the Holy Spirit fortifies your prayers and causes them to be as effective as possible. The first truth you need to know about the Holy Spirit is this: The Holy Spirit provides Christians with a very powerful, indwelling presence.
You can’t talk about power in prayer without talking about the Holy Spirit.
In Acts 1:4 Jesus commanded the disciples not to leave Jerusalem until they had received the promise of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was saying don’t leave home without the Spirit, because the power He promised (Acts 1:8) would only be realized when the presence of the Spirit was realized. Jesus had promised earlier to come to His disciples after His death and resurrection (John 14:18).
The way Jesus was going to come to them—and the way He comes to us today—was through the indwelling Person of the Holy Spirit.
In other words, you do not have to go back in time to be with Jesus. There is no such thing as wishing that Jesus were here. He is. That is why the Holy Spirit is called so often in Scripture the Spirit of Christ.
It is the Holy Spirit who brings you the reality of the power of the resurrected and ascended Christ. If you want to be close to Christ, you must be close to the Spirit, because He is the Spirit of Christ.
Don’t spend too much time trying to figure out how He is Spirit and Christ at the same time, and how the two relate, or you may remain thoroughly confused. It is beyond our finite understanding. The mystery of the Trinity is beyond our ability to comprehend.
The mystery of the Trinity is beyond our ability to comprehend.
You have access to God through the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity. Quite simply, He is God. He is the invisible presence and power of the invisible God who indwells every believer at the point of salvation. The Holy Spirit performs a number of ministries within us, to us and for us, which often show up in four distinct ways: His empowerment, His filling, the fruit He wants to produce in our lives and the freedom He brings. There’s nothing mystical about the Holy Spirit’s work, but it is supernatural from beginning to end.
