Story 1: The Theme Park Prodigals
Parable: Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-24)

Kylar and Kam manage their own theme park cards and end up being bored most of the day after using up all of their credits. The “good” siblings poke fun at their folly before all of the kids learn a valuable real-life lesson which is powerfully driven home through the parable of the Prodigal Son.

Story 2: Date Night Return
Parable: Talents (Matthew 25:14-30)

Kelsey and J2 develop a scheme to avoid their chores while their parents enjoy a night out together. When Jonathan and Kanika arrive back home bearing gifts for anyone who completed their chores, Kelsey and J2 gladly accept—until bedtime when their chore aversion is comically exposed just as Jonathan is reading the parable of Talents.

Story 3: Wilderness Wisdom
Parable: The Builders (Luke 6:46-49/Matthew 7:24-27)

After trading in their game consoles for a family trek to the great outdoors, the boys—J2 and Kam—don’t take their tent-making instructions seriously, but the girls do. The next day the girls are well rested and dry, but the boys are exhausted and soaked to the bone. On the ride home, Jonathan unpacks the parable of the wise and foolish builders.

Story 4: The Sugar Monster
Parable: The Rich Young Man (Luke 12:16-21)

While creating their own homemade costumes, sugar-loving Kelsey devises a candy-hoarding scheme on Halloween that works perfectly. That is until she realizes she hid her massive stash of candy along with boxes from the attic that are designated for trash day in the morning! After losing her windfall, Kelsey fesses up at bedtime as her parents teach the parable of the rich young man who hoarded the things of the world and lost everything.

Story 5: Cook-Off Competition Catastrophe
Parable: The Sower (Luke 8:1-15)

Kanika’s creative homeschool activity—a friendly cooking competition between the kids—also serves as a surprise dinner for their grandfather Tony Evans (who thinks Kanika has done all the cooking). When we discover that the four oldest children neglected to follow proper instructions, it’s too late tore-bake and dinner is on the verge of disaster. That is until Bunny—the youngest of the mall—saves the day with her perfectly baked entree. At bedtime the kids learn the parable of the sower as they envision how each dinner dish relates to the types of soil described in the parable.

Story 6: The Sly Seed-Sower:
Parable: The Wheat and Tares (Matthew 13:24-29)

Kanika’s hands-on homeschool lesson on the difference between healthy seeds and invasive weeds results in a surprise mix up the next day. While the family sleeps, Curious Kylar decides to plant the invasive species plant—a rapidly growing carnivorous weed—in all of the pots where her siblings planted good seeds. After contending comically with the giant weeds, the family is finally able to remove the bad plants from the good ones. At bedtime, the kids learn the parable of the wheat and tares.

Story 7: The Creek Creature
Parable: The Debtor (Luke 7:33-50)

Seemingly normal activities—such as a fun family cooking competition, camping in the great outdoors, a trip to a theme park, or a hands-on homeschool activity—turn into hysterical adventures and epic teachable moments. Jonathan and Kanika follow up the day’s events with a bedtime Bible lesson that connects their experience to the teachings of Jesus in a way their children will never forget!

Story 8: Reckless Responsibility
Parable: Unmerciful Servant (Matthew 18: 23-35)

When Jonathan and Kanika give their children new responsibilities, everything goes haywire. The Bigs” (the older two) cause major damage and are forgiven, but when “The Littles” (the younger three) cause minor damage their older siblings withhold forgive- ness. At bedtime Jonathan unpacks the Parable of the Unmer- ciful Servant.

Story 9: Pick to Play
PARABLE: Laborers in the Vineyard (Matthew 20:1-16)

When the “littles” (Tyson and Bunny) are the last to get in an epic (and zany) annual family field-day game and Bunny effort- lessly scores the winning touch down and gets rewarded, the “bigs” (Kelsey and J2) and the “middles” (Kylar and Kam) feel burned—having been in the game longer. At bedtime Jonathan unpacks the parable of the labor- ers in the vineyard.
